The Côte-Rôtie wine-growing area covers three towns: Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-et-Semons, on the right bank of the Rhône, on very steep granite terraces covered with a silica-limestone layer for the Côte Blonde and a clay and iron oxide layer for the Côte Brune. The climate is moderate Mediterranean, dry and hot in summer and with regular rainfall in the other seasons. There are around 200 hectares of vineyards set on terraces with 40% slopes, divided into: Côte Brune (clay, dark-coloured soil) producing very firm red wines with slow development and very good ageing potential (Vaillères, Côte Rosier, Turque, Pommière, Chevalière, Côte Boudin), and Côte Blonde (lighter soil) giving more supple wines (La Mouline, Châtillonne, Grande Plantée, Grands Cols).
Enjoy this superb Côte-Rôtie Drevon 2016, purple in colour, with complex connotations of cherry, plum and spices, a powerful wine, with a harmonious structure, very firm in the mouth. “Produced for 3 generations, the Classic vintage renamed since the 2013 Drevon vintage, in reference to the work of André and Louis Drevon. A wine of guard as evidenced this 2013, with the nose present with aromas of violet and prune, it is a warm and gourmet wine, always very typed, with notes of leather and humus in the final, ideal currently with a truffle scramble or fried foie gras with cranberries.
Taste the Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Coeur de Rose 2016, characteristic of the Syrah growing on the micaschist terroirs of the brown soils of the appellation, 50% of new barrels, a concentrated wine but all in distinction, marked by its terroir, a bold and fragrant wine, of very good mouth, with connotations of blackcurrant and pepper, combining color and material, of a nice spicy finish, of excellent evolution.
Beautiful plot Cuvée Besset, which flowers plum and spices, with ample tannins, full mouth, shades of fruits from the woods and gibberish notes.
There is also this Condrieu 2015, pure Viognier, soil of decomposed granite, 25% of new barrels, mineral to taste, rich in bouquet, very harmonious, with notes of dried fruits and flowers, of a long finish with pleasant notes of citrus, perfect on a wolf with anise sabayon or tagliatelle with truffles and foie gras, among others.
